Urgent call for volunteers:
Operation Ayiti an organization created by three tweeters and a group of businesses doing business in Haiti, is designed to give light and hope to the Haitian community in three languages: English, French and Kréyol.
As a collective we have decided that we are best suited to allow the fund collectors and relief groups to do the fund collecting and relief efforts, leaving Operation Ayiti in the unique position of doing its work. Helping share calls for help, helping reunite family members and helping find and document all Haitian people in light of the fact that there is no Haitian Government agency capable of collecting the information.
We have added two tools to our website, the first being the Google.com Peoplefinder, and the Facial recognition software: http://www.beextra.org
What you can do:
For English only speakers:
We need you to help retweet stories of hope and light as well as calls for urgent need that will be disseminated via @operationAyiti and the OperationAyiti.org website. You can connect with the RSS feed or simply follow @operationAyiti.org To become registered as a volunteer, email sally@operationAyiti.org
For new tweets, address them to @operationAyiti for dissemination through the retweet chain.
If you have the stomach for it, click here to go to http://www.beextra.org/haiti and tag photos. All of the instructions for the facial recognition part of the project is there.
If you would like to help us blog success stories, photos and miracles, send an email to tina@operationayiti.org to get set up.
For French and Kréyol speakers;
With the help of Maison D’Haiti in Montreal, we have set up a call center in St. Michel there are dedicated phone lines where volunteers can help telephone the numbers of people on the diaspora to collect information and others to phone Haiti to help connect survivors to family. To register for the call center, contact Sally@operationAyiti.org
From your own home, if you have a VOIP system we are asking volunteers to call phone numbers of people in Haiti. Again, the goal is to collect information and connect survivors to family.
We also need tweeters and bloggers who are able to translate or write stories of hope and light in French and or Kréyol. If you would like to blog for us, please email Tina@operationAyiti.org
If you can translate French or Kreyol into English, click here for instructions on translating the text messages coming into the call centers from Haiti.
For everyone else:
If you don’t tweet and can’t blog or speak French or Kréyol, that’s okay. Contact us and let us know what you can do and you might be surprised when we tell you that we need volunteers for that too!
We cannot rescue everyone. We will be late arriving to help others, but in the meantime, we can be a beacon of security and hope for all those who so desperately need it at this time.
Thank you for wanting to help.
Operatian Ayiti
